CAMRA SO – Craft Beer News and Events, February 2021

Hello CAMRA SO Members!
Happy 2021! We hope that your new year is off to a great start. We miss you and we look forward to the time in the future when we can gather again in person.

In the meantime, here’s an update today to let you know we’re still around and working on some craft beer activities including an exciting new take on our CAMRA SO rare beer event.

MEMBERSHIP RENEWALS:
Time flies when you’re dealing with a pandemic – is it 2021 already?!

All kidding aside, if you’ve received this email but your membership has lapsed, CAMRA SO is continuing to provide a “thank you” gift with each renewal … a $10 JAKS gift card will be mailed to you with your new membership card!

A NEW CAMRA SO RARE BEER EVENT FOR 2021
Thursday, March 4th – 6:00 – 7:30 pm

One of our most loved events of prior years is our CAMRA SO Rare Beer Event. Because we can’t gather in person, we have modified the event and we will be hosting it virtually on Zoom. We’ve partnered with our good friends from JAK’s Beer Wine Spirits and Jon Cote from Craft Corner Kitchen.

The great team from JAKS has curated an exclusive selection for CAMRA SO members featuring beers ranging from new, special, and brewery-exclusive offerings.

BEER TASTING PACKS from JAKs
Each tasting pack contains 6 beers, so plan to share your tasting pack with your household bubble. Please note there are only 48 packs available for this event, so order yours today.

Some of the beers you can expect to try:Hazy pale ale with lots of citrus and soft on the palateBourbon barrel-aged Imperial stout from one of BC’s top breweries … never previously releasedFoeder-aged Czech Pilsner … usually a brewery-only releasePlus a couple more surprises! The cost is $39.99 plus tax and deposits. Each tasting pack comes with a $10 JAKs gift card. There are 6 full-sized beers in the pack. It’s a great value with that $10 gift card!

As we’ve come to anticipate from prior Rare Beers events, these will be pretty special beers, but their exact identity remains a secret for now … it’s all part of the fun!!

For more details and to order your tasting pack through the Penticton branch of JAK’s Beer Wine Spirits, click here: https://shop.jaks.com/camra Then pick up your tasting pack at JAKs Cherry Lane between March 1-4.

Then, on March 4th at 6pm, tune in virtually (Zoom link will follow). You’ll have the opportunity to hear from Rhandi at JAKs about each beer, get some education on beer styles from Michelle, our education director, hear from Jon about the foods he created to pair with the beer (see below), and chat with each other about the beers we are trying. We’ll even have some prizes! Can’t wait to “see” you all online on March 4th.

Beer at the Beach – 2021 season is just weeks away!
The City of Penticton pilot project allowing for responsible consumption of alcohol at select beaches and parks begins again this spring. It’s still early, but we hope to see our members when we plan another “Beer at the Beach”. We’ll provide details as the weather gets a bit warmer! It’s a great way to see each other; outdoors in a safe and physically-separated way! We’ll keep an eye on all applicable health regulations between now and then to ensure we plan appropriately.
