CAMRA South Okanagan News & Events – January 2018

Wow, CAMRA SO Members, can you believe 2017 is almost over? We are so pleased to have shared another amazing year with all of you. Highlights of our year were our 2nd Annual Home Brewer Competition (Brewer’s Choice Winner Warren Everton pictured above with Home Brewing Educator Eike Heinz and President Kim Lawton), the Rare Beers Event just held in early December, our Member’s Meeting at Highway 97 in June and our Road Trip to Firehall Brewery in May!

We are brewing some awesome events for 2018. We are starting right off the bat with Bad Tattoo Brewing’s launch of “Breakfast at Everton’s” Stout on January 5th. As the winner of the Brewer’s Choice at our Home Brewer Competition, Warren Everton, our previous Home Brewing Educator, won the opportunity to work with a local brewery of his choice for a day. So Warren and the team at Bad Tattoo took his winning beer from this event and made a full batch of this cocoa and coffee stout. Click here for more details.

Next up on January 27th is our road trip to the Central Okanagan! We are still finalizing the details, but we hope to stop at Detonate in Summerland, Kind in West Kelowna, and Kettle River, Red Bird, BNA and Boundary Brewing in Kelowna. Please complete our poll on attendance of this event so we know how big of a shuttle we need to reserve. Tickets will be $15 for members and $30 for non-members and will be available in the days ahead on EventBrite. You will have the opportunity to join the shuttle in Penticton or at the first stop at Detonate in Summerland. There will be beer and food available for purchase throughout the day. More details on the event can be found here.

Tickets for the annual Brewski event at the Gunbarrel Saloon at Apex are almost sold out. Go here for more details and to buy tickets. Don’t forget to flash your membership card when you check in, as CAMRA SO members get 2 extra drink tickets.

There are also Early Bird Tickets for Okanagan Fest of Ale available until January 15, get yours now!

We want to extend a special thank you to the staff at JAK’s Cherry Lane and Craft Corner Kitchen for the amazing 2nd annual Rare Beers Event! Chris from JAKs put together an amazing list of rare and unusual beer this year, as well as having special guests from Torchlight drop by! Chef Ian and Jon at Craft Corner Kitchen worked hard to provide delicious food pairings, and they kept the food orders and beer flowing with a full house of CAMRA SO Members! For pictures of the event click here.

We hope you have had a wonderful holiday season with your friends and family and look forward to sharing 2018 with you. Thanks for your support of both CAMRA SO and the local craft beer community! Please read below for details on our upcoming AGM and exciting opportunities opening up on our executive team!

CAMRA SO AGM and ELECTION – FEBRUARY 21
5:30-8:30pm
Craft Corner KitchenCAMRA South Okanagan needs your help! Some of our executive members are moving on to new projects and we need to fill their positions! Volunteering on our board is a fun and interactive way to become part of our local Craft Beer Community. The amount of work varies for each position, but amounts to just a few hours each month, and attending executive meetings a few times a year. All you need is a good attitude, passion for craft beer and the desire to raise awareness of craft beer on a local level through campaigns and fun members events! Please contact any one of our executive members for more information on what the roles entail.

At the AGM, all of our executive positions are up for re-election each year. While some of our executives are running for their positions again this year, we encourage any members interested in any positions to submit a nomination and speak to the current executive to find out more about what the role entails. We also encourage attendance of the AGM by all of our members.

By attending the AGM, you can learn more about how our organization operates and makes decisions on what events and campaigns to promote locally. It is also an opportunity for our membership to provide feedback and ideas for the upcoming year to our executive team. A bonus for attending the AGM is there will be a cask night and member’s social immediately following the meeting. Please go here for more details on the event. We look forward to seeing you at the AGM.
