CAMRA SOUTH OKANAGAN NEWSLETTER – OCTOBER 2017

Autumnal Greetings, CAMRA SO members!

Summer may be gone, but things haven’t slowed down in the beer world! October is BC Craft Beer Month and we have lots of great events to share with you, both locally and around the province. Don’t forget – if you are travelling outside of the South Okanagan area that there are lots of great CAMRA member benefits available across BC. Check out the full list here. 


The CAMRA SO team would like to thank all our members who were able to attend the 2nd Annual CAMRA SO Home Brewing Competition. This is the biggest event we’ve held to date, and it was so much fun. It took a team of amazing people to put on this awesome event and we would like to give special thanks to Kari and Brent from Square One Hop Growers; our sponsors, Kelowna Brew Supplies and Trellis and Vine CrafthouseGrape Friends for the shuttle services and Wine Crush Marketfor the great eats; our Judges, Ian Dyck from Cannery Brewing, Robert Thereaux from Bad Tattoo Brewing and Andrew Anker from Highway 97 Brewing. We also want to applaud our competitors for their generosity in sharing their passion for home brewing with us, along with their tasty beers!

Congratulations to our winners, listed below:

People’s Choice Awards:
1st place – Warren Everton, Drive Thru Breakfast Stout. Warren won a $75 gift certificate from Trellis & Vine Crafthouse
2nd place – Evan Cadwallader, Northwestern Brown Ale. Evan won a collection of speciality malts provided by Square One Hop Growers
3rd place – Brad Kotnik, Slack Tide New England IPA. Brad won a Mash Tun and other brewing equipment from Kelowna Brew Supplies

Brewers’ Choice Awards:
1st place – Warren Everton, Miami Weisse Sour. Warren won the opportunity to work alongside the brewing team at one of the South Okanagan breweries of his choice for a day
2nd place – Eric Harding, The Dandy Lion, Dandelion Saison. Eric won a $75 gift certificate from Trellis & Vine Crafthouse

Penticton was recently featured in Expedia’s Best Beer Towns in Canada! One of three in BC, the other two are Revelstoke and Victoria. Click here to see the full article.

2017 BC BEER AWARDS – SATURDAY OCTOBER 21, VANCOUVER
If you head to Vancouver for the Brewers Conference, stick around the next day for the BC Beer Awards, and try the best beers of 2017! Tickets and more info available here.
Saturday October 21 – 6:00pm – 12:30am
Make plans to join the celebration at the 8th annual Penticton Oktoberfest. Lederhosen or not, it’s guaranteed you will enjoy a fabulous night of mouth-watering food, wonderful entertainment and great beverages! Wear comfortable shoes, as the dance floor is the place to be!

MEMBERSHIP 

Membership across BC is made up of over 1300 individuals. Member activities include beer tastings, brewery tours, seminars & more. CAMRA members are eager to apply their talents and experience to promoting widespread public appreciation of the many “real beers” that have become available in recent years.
